The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (“IRBM”) has extended the Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme 2026 (“SVDP 2026”) for stamp duty to 31 December 2026 (from 30 June 2026), giving businesses an additional six months to regularise past non-compliance without penalties.
The extension aims to encourage voluntary compliance and give taxpayers more time to adapt to the stamp duty Self-Assessment System (“SAS”).
With the extension, businesses that have yet to participate should review their stamp duty compliance and take proactive steps in managing stamp duty obligations.
It is important to note that the stamping process takes time. In some cases, the IRBM may require 3 to 7 working days to process / assess an instrument and issue the notice of stamp duty assessment. It is expected that there will be significant volume of instruments to be submitted through the e-Duti Setem portal during the year end rush and initiating the process early will certainly help in avoiding unnecessary bottlenecks – EARLY action is strongly recommended.
